I have been using rice water to grow my hair for over a year now and I have seen major growth. I first heard about rice water on youtube but have since been seeing it all over social media. Women have been using this hair growth elixir for many years starting with the Yao women of China. In a village located in southern China, the Yao women hold the Guinness world record for the “world’s longest hair village”. These women all have extremely long hair around 6.8 ft long! The women of the village only wash their hair fermented rice water. Fermented rice water is water mixed with clean rice that has been stored away for weeks. Rice water has many benefits such as making your hair strong, shiny, and reducing gray hair.

Here is a simple rice water recipe: 1. Rinse your rice to get rid of any unneeded minerals. The rice can be brown, white, or any that you have.
2. Pour your rice in an airtight jar and fill the jar with water.
3. Leave the rice water in a cool place, such as a cabinet, for at least 30 minutes. To get the full benefit I will leave the rice water to sit overnight or for a couple of days. The Yao women leave theirs for at least a week, or up to a month.
4. Before pouring the rice water on your hair after washing it, dilute it with a cup of regular water. Since rice water has so much protein, you do not want the mixture to be too strong so you must dilute it with more water.
5. I distribute the rice water in my hair with a spray bottle and leave it in my hair. I make sure to add a leave-in conditioner and moisturizing essential oil as rice water can dry out your hair if you are not careful. You can also use it as a mask and rinse the rice water out after leaving it in for 30 minutes.
