With summer upon us and more time to ourselves, this is a great time to focus on your hair. This summer I will be embarking on a summer hair growth challenge. I have done research on different methods on growing your hair and will be explaining what I will be incorporating in my hair routine for the next three months that you can follow along with or tweak to your liking. I will be following the Capillary schedule as well as incorporating my own hair growth methods.
What is the Capillary Schedule?
When I was beginning to plan out my hair growth schedule I came across this method that was explained by the Youtube channel OrganicallyAnna. She explains that the Capillary schedule is a routine that helps with hair growth that is popular in Brazil and Italy. This method is essentially a weekly schedule that helps your hair with hydration, nutrition, and reconstruction.
Summer Hair Growth Challenge Tips:
1. Water intake and diet
Drinking water is essential to having a healthy body which in turn will give you healthy hair. I have been drinking around 64 ounces of water a day or 4 bottles of water. I track my water on the Lifesum app where you can also track what you are eating. Eating a healthy diet is also essential to hair growth. Food rich in protein and biotin are great for hair growth and some of my favorites are: Avocados, almonds, salmon, berries, spinach, bananas, eggs, and chia seeds. I have been trying to incorporate these foods into each meal. Here is a photo of the Lifesum app icon and where to track your water intake:

2. Weekly Hair mask
I am switching between shea moisture masks, hot oil treatment, and rice water masks each week. Using a moisturizing mask or making a DIY one will help add hydration to your hair. The hot oil treatments help add moisture and strength to the hair. Heating up a plant-based oil such as coconut oil, olive oil, or castor oil and using it as a hair mask is how hot oil treatments are done. I also use a rice water mask to add protein and strength to my hair. I have a post all about making rice water and its benefits.
3. Scalp massage daily
Many people accredited their long hair to scalp massaging daily. This is done by simply massaging your scalp with no product for a few minutes everyday. Following the pressure points from the inversion method, you can continue to maximize your hair growth. You can also use a scalp massaging tool to help aid you for this. I will include an image of pressure points you can hit in your massage to maximize hair growth:

4. Inversion method
This is a method that can be done monthly to see the best results. Use any plant-based oil such as castor or olive oil to use on your scalp. Once a day for a week invert your head upside down by leaning over your bed or a chair and give yourself a scalp massage with the bed of your fingers, making sure not to scratch your scalp with your nails causing damage, or use a scalp massaging brush. Inverting your head helps to increase blood flow to your scalp which can increase growth. If you become nauseous while doing this you do not have to invert your head but can just add oil. Do this at the same time every day for five to seven days. Measure your hair before and after to see results.
5. Protective Styling
Protective styling ensures that the ends of your hair are protected from outside elements. This includes braids, buns, and other updos. Since we will be in the house most of the day I found that there is not much reason to have my hair down and in my face all day.
